Description
79'
Sommer is forced into action again! Akanji darts down the right and tries to find Haaland with a driven cross, only for the Bayern goalkeeper to dive in and punch the ball away! If they don't tighten up, things could get ugly for Bayern here.
77'
Now Dias steps in with a brilliant challenge as Coman attempts to drive into the penalty area. The City defender has looked so accomplished here.
76'
E. Haaland has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by J. Stones.
GOAAAAAAAL! CITY DO GET A THIRD AS HAALAND STRIKES! City work a corner short and deliver from a deep position on the right, with Stones waiting at the back post. The England man nods across goal to Haaland, who stretches to knock in a third! City are in dreamland, they have a 3-0 lead in the Champions League quarter-finals!
Stones gets the assist by nodding into Haaland's path, allowing the Norwegian to produce a typical poacher's finish from six yards out!
72'
What is Upamecano doing? Almost directly from the restart, Upamecano is caught napping again, and Gundogan almost gets in behind after the Bayern defender is dispossessed. Grealish then looks for Silva at the back post, but his menacing cross drifts away from his team-mate.
70'
Bernardo Silva has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by E. Haaland.
GOAAAAAAAL! SILVA PUTS CITY 2-0 UP! The hosts get the all-important second goal through Silva! Bayern are masters of their own downfall as Upamecano is inexplicably caught in possession by Grealish, who sends Haaland clear with a neat backheel. The Norwegian shapes to shoot but instead lifts a great cross towards Silva, who heads in despite Sommer getting a touch!
Haaland has made headlines with his goalscoring exploits this term, but what a cross that was for Silva! Grealish also deserves credit for his excellent defensive work, winning the ball back high up the pitch to start the attack.
69'
S. Mané enters the game and replaces J. Musiala.
Tuchel responds to Alvarez's introduction with a change of his own. Former Liverpool forward Mane replaces Musiala.

J. Álvarez enters the game and replaces K. De Bruyne.

65'
Bayern play on against 10 men before De Bruyne is allowed to re-enter the action. Bayern win a corner on the left, to be taken by Kimmich…
64'
Goretzka makes a fine sliding challenge to dispossess De Bruyne, who remains down in a heap after falling off the pitch. The challenge was a fair one, but the City playmaker is in some discomfort and needs treatment.
63'
City seem to have re-established some level of control following a hectic spell, but both teams look threatening every time they enter the final third.
61'
Brilliant play from Silva! The City man skips past two challenges to reach the byline, turning Davies inside-out. His cut-back deflects to Gundogan, but the German's cross-shot flies through the area and Bayern escape.
59'
We've seen six strong saves from the goalkeepers since the restart, and there is no sign that the pace of this game will drop any time soon!
51'
Grealish briefly goes down following a sliding challenge, allowing everyone a rare moment to catch their breath. He's quickly back to his feet, however, and the contest restarts.
49'
A. Davies gets yellow.
Davies becomes the first Bayern player booked for a foul high up near the corner flag, which allows City to relieve the pressure.
48'
Bernardo Silva gets yellow.
Since losing four consecutive away games against English sides in the Champions League between 2005 and 2011, Bayern Munich have only lost on two of their last 10 such trips (W6 D2), winning on three of the last four (D1). If the Bavarian giants can't find a response in this half, they will need to fight back in next week's return fixture in Germany.
Silva picks up the game's first yellow card, having caught Musiala from behind.
46'
City kick us off for the second half after both teams opt against making any half-time substitutions.

42'
The dutchman limps off the pitch and goes down again. Bayern are playing with 10 men, for the time being, as the game restarts.
40'
De Ligt is lurking as Kimmich sends the corner towards the back post, but Ake clears before Gundogan steps in to intercept the second delivery.
39'
City concede a corner as Akanji matches Coman stride for stride, sliding in on the winger to stop him barging into the area.
37'
De Bruyne skips between Upamecano and Pavard before the latter trips him just inside Bayern's half. The Belgian had Haaland up with him, and Tuchel's men needed to stop his advance.
35'
The resulting corner finds Haaland at the back post, but the Norwegian is just unable to divert the ball in on the stretch. He keeps it alive, however, before Dias is crowded out. This is a very good spell for City.
31'

29'
The Etihad is bouncing as De Bruyne whips a dangerous ball in, only for Ake to be penalised for handball as he looked to pick up the pieces on the edge of the area. That magnificent goal from Rodri has City ahead in this quarter-final!
27'
Rodri has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by Bernardo Silva.
GOAAAAAAAAAL! WHAT A STRIKE FROM RODRI! 1-0! Just as Bayern were beginning to build some momentum, City go ahead through a wonderful goal! Rodri turns inside Musiala after receiving Silva's pass 30 yards from goal, and with few options, the Spaniard goes for goal with a curling, left-footed attempt. Sommer has no chance as the shot arcs into the top-left corner! What a goal!
Silva will surely never record an easier assist, finding Rodri with a simple pass in midfield and allowing his team-mate to do the rest! What a moment!
25'
Great block! Bayern get in behind as Kimmich wins a huge challenge and Sane picks up the loose ball, skipping past Akanji with ease to cut back for Musiala. The Germany international looks for the bottom corner, but Dias stretches to make an excellent block with Ederson seemingly beaten!
23'
Great defending from Ake as Coman looks to bustle into City's area, with the Frenchman being held up and eventually forced to flick a wayward pass out of play for a throw-in.
20'
De Bruyne fires a wicked ball towards the near post from the right-hand side. With Gundogan attacking it, Bayern captain Kimmich dives in to concede a corner.
18'
While City are always expected to dominate possession, they look willing to concede space to Bayern when the visitors win the ball. Musiala and Davies combine on the edge of the box before Akanji makes a firm block from Gnabry's shot.
16'
Silva and Akanji both fly into fair challenges in their own half as Bayern win a throw on the left flank before retaining possession. This has been a very competitive start.
11'
Bayern put City under pressure as Kimmich finds Coman with a lofted pass. The ball is eventually worked to Davies on the edge of the area… but the Canadian drags his effort well wide of Ederson's goal!
9'
Bayern's first real spell of possession ends when Sane is caught by Gundogan, allowing Silva to break. Upamecano halts his advance with a fine challenge, sliding in to hook the ball away.
8'
Over! Silva skips past Davies on the right before finding De Bruyne, who stands up a neat cross from the corner of the area. Gundogan meets it and heads well over the bar. City would have preferred to see Haaland attacking that delivery!
6'
Haaland attempts the first shot of the game after latching onto De Bruyne's pass on the left-hand side of the box, but the ball flies harmlessly over Sommer's crossbar.
5'
This game has started at a frantic pace, with City looking to build from deep and Bayern willing to press inside the hosts' half. Akanji, rather than Stones, is playing at right-back when Bayern have the ball, but Stones is still the man stepping into City's midfield when they win possession.
3'
Coman looks to charge past Ake on Bayern's right flank, but the City defender is too strong and Dias can mop up for the hosts just inside his own area.
2'
City are on the front foot straight away as Grealish darts infield before seeing a pass towards De Bruyne cut out just inside the D. The hosts quickly regain possession and look to build another attack.

This Champions League quarter-final tie is under way as Gnabry gets the ball rolling for Bayern!
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the first leg of Manchester City's Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich from the Etihad Stadium!
Pep Guardiola's quest to bring a first European crown to Manchester City sees him face old foe Thomas Tuchel in the last eight. City's best run in the Champions League to date saw them fall short against Tuchel's Chelsea in the 2021 final, but they come into this game in excellent form, winning eight successive matches. The Premier League champions have won two of their previous three home games against Bayern in this competition, and another victory over the Bundesliga giants would see them put one foot in the semi-finals.
MANCHESTER CITY (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake; Rodri, John Stones; Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish; Erling Haaland.
MANCHESTER CITY SUBS: Stefan Ortega, Scott Carson, Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips, Aymeric Laporte, Julian Alvarez, Sergio Gomez, Riyad Mahrez, Maximo Perrone, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis.
Bayern have won two of their three games under Tuchel, beating Freiburg 1-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday to bounce back from last week's dramatic DFB-Pokal defeat to the same opponents. Tuchel has won two of his last three meetings with Guardiola in cup competitions, and the former Champions League-winning coach will surely have a plan in mind to stop City, as Bayern bid to tee up a semi-final against either Real Madrid or Chelsea.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Yann Sommer; Benjamin Pavard, Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies; Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane; Serge Gnabry.
BAYERN MUNICH SUBS: Sven Ulreich, Johannes Schenk, Sadio Mane, Bouna Sarr, Joao Cancelo, Daley Blind, Thomas Muller, Ryan Gravenberch, Mathys Tel, Noussair Mazraoui, Josip Stanisic.
Bayern have enjoyed 54.4 per cent of the possession in this game, a rare achievement for a visiting side at the Etihad. Musiala, Sane, Coman and Gnabry have had City worried at times, but the visitors have perhaps lacked penetration. Tuchel has the likes of Mane and Muller waiting in the wings, and it will surely only be a matter of time before he makes a change or two.
It's back to the drawing board for Tuchel, who was unable to mastermind a repeat of Chelsea's 2021 final victory over City and must inspire an incredible turnaround in the second leg next Wednesday. Bayern did have chances of their own as Ederson made several strong saves to deny Sane, but making the semi-finals now looks a tall order for the Bundesliga leaders – they were simply unable to cope when City stepped things up in the final 20 minutes.
That's all from us! We hope you have enjoyed our coverage of a thrilling Champions League encounter, and we'll see you for the second leg next week!
