Hello and welcome to the live commentary for the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Leeds United.
Arsenal can regain their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a victory over Leeds. The Gunners secured their sixth successive win in the competition when they thrashed Crystal Palace 4-1 before the international break and will be looking to make it seven in a row for the first time since they did so under Unai Emery in 2018. Mikel Arteta’s men have only lost one league game at the Emirates Stadium this season, winning 11 and drawing two of their 14 games.
Leeds climbed out of the relegation zone and into 14th place in the Premier League after beating Wolves 4-2 at Molineux in their previous match. It was their second victory in four games under new boss Javi Gracia who has guided the Whites to seven points out of a possible 12 since replacing Jesse Marsch in the dugout. Despite an upturn in form, Leeds are only two points above the drop zone and need another positive result to ease any relegation fears with 11 games still to play. However, they have not won any of their last 13 games against Arsenal in all competitions (losing 11 and drawing two), with their most recent win coming in May 2003.
ARSENAL SUBS: Matt Turner, Kieran Tierney, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Jakub Kiwior, Jorginho, Fábio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, Reuell Walters.
ARSENAL (4-3-3): Aaron Ramsdale; Ben White, Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka; Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli.
LEEDS UNITED (5-4-1): Illan Meslier; Luke Ayling, Robin Koch, Rasmus Kristensen, Pascal Struijk, Junior Firpo; Crysencio Summerville, Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson, Jack Harrison; Luis Sinisterra.
LEEDS UNITED SUBS: Joel Robles, Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Darko Gyabi, Rodrigo, Georginio Rutter, Weston McKennie, Sam Greenwood, Archie Gray.
Arsenal have the lead at the break, but could count themselves a little fortunate. They have struggled to unlock Leeds' defence and have regularly wasted possession when trying to chip the ball over the top of their low block. When regaining possession, they must break quickly and make the most of the opposition defence being out of position, rather than slow the game down. As for the away side, a mistake from Ayling has cost them what would be a deserved clean sheet at the break. Alert defensively, they have broken forwards at the right times with Summerville and Aaronson always ready to get forward. They had two great chance before the break and will be disappointed at their lack of a clinical edge.
That's all for today, goodbye.
Next up, Arsenal will be looking to extend their winning run to eight games when they travel to Liverpool, with Leeds hosting Nottingham Forest in a crucial clash around the bottom of the table.
