Southampton get things under way.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Premier League meeting between Leeds United and Southampton at Elland Road.
Leeds have struggled this season but will be hoping for the new manager bounce in Javi Gracia’s first game in charge. The former Watford boss has been tasked with steering the club away from relegation but they are in real peril after a poor showing against Everton a week ago that finds them in 19th.
Southampton are rock bottom in the Premier League table but fans were buoyed after an impressive 1-0 win away at Chelsea last Saturday. At one point, it looked like former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch was going to be in the dugout for Saints today, but talks fell through so they appointed Ruben Selles until the end of the season.
LEEDS UNITED (4-2-3-1): Illan Meslier; Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling, Robin Koch, Maximilian Wober; Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie; Wilfried Gnonto, Jack Harrison, Brenden Aaronson; Patrick Bamford.
SUBS: Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Darko Gyabi, Diogo Monteiro, Joel Robles, Mateo Joseph, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Sam Greenwood.
SUBS: Ibrahima Diallo, Moussa Djenepo, Sekou Mara, Willy Caballero, Carlos Alcaraz, Theo Walcott, Adam Armstrong, Kyle Walker-Peters.
The teams are coming out, there's so much riding on this one!
SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Gavin Bazunu; Romain Perraud, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Jan Bednarek; Stuart Armstrong, Romeo Lavia, Mohamed Elyounoussi, James Ward-Prowse; Kamaldeen Sulemana, Paul Onuachu.
It's been a game of few chances so one goal could easily be enough to take all three points today. Leeds have £35m January signing Rutter on the bench and Gracia may bring the Frenchman on if it remains goalless. Onuachu and Sulemana have looked isolated in attack for Southampton so Selles will be hoping his midfield can offer more support in the second half.
It was a dream start for Gracia in charge of Leeds who finally get another win in the league. They play Fulham in the FA Cup next but will feel much more confident about their chances of Premier League survival after that performance. Southampton are not cut adrift at the bottom yet but they will be desperate to beat Leicester City when they visit Saint Mary's Stadium on March 4th.
