Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League fixture between Brentford and Southampton.
Brentford come into this game in great form as they are currently unbeaten in their last eight league games. A win could take Thomas Frank’s side as high as sixth in the table and with a game in hand over some of the teams around them. The Bees did drop some momentum in their most recent fixture as they drew 0-0 to struggling Leeds two weeks ago.
Southampton will be desperate for all three points today so they can climb off the bottom of the Premier League standings. The Saints have only won one league game since the World Cup break as they beat Everton 2-1 away from home. Nathan Jones’s team have played three cup games since their last league fixture, losing to Newcastle twice in the EFL Cup semi-finals while beating Blackpool in the FA Cup.
Brentford (4-3-3): David Raya; Aaron Hickey, Ethan Pinnock, Ben Mee, Rico Henry; Mathias Jensen, Christian Norgaard, Josh Dasilva; Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney, Yoane Wissa.
SUBS: Matthew Cox, Kevin Schade, Zanka, Saman Ghoddos, Kristoffer Ajer, Keane Lewis-Potter, Mikkel Damsgaard, Vitaly Janelt, Mads Roerslev.
Southampton (4-2-3-1): Gavin Bazunu; James Bree, Jan Bednarek, Mohammed Salisu, Romain Perraud; Romeo Lavia, Ibrahima Diallo; Mohamed Elyounoussi, James Ward-Prowse, Samuel Edozie; Che Adams.
SUBS: Willy Caballero, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Lyanco, Joe Aribo, Adam Armstrong, Paul Onuachu, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Carlos Alcaraz, Theo Walcott.
The players are making their way out of the tunnel and onto the pitch!
Despite a poor showing from both sides for most of the half, Brentford always looked more dangerous when getting into the final third. Their ability to get a cross into the box for the likes of Toney and Mee to attack seems too tricky for Southampton to deal with.
That's all for today, goodbye!
Brentford move up to seventh in the league table, just three points behind fifth-place Tottenham. Southampton remain at the bottom of the Premier League wit the pressure increasing on Jones. The Bees travel to Arsenal for their next fixture while the Saints host fellow strugglers Wolves.
