Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Real Madrid and Valencia.
Real Madrid recovered from embarrassment against Eibar last weekend by beating Roma in the Champions League in midweek. Santiago Solari has led his team to five victories in six matches, but this is his biggest domestic test so far.
Valencia started the season poorly. However, they have turned things round of late with back-to-back LaLiga victories. Valencia are only six points outside the top four and can overtake Real Madrid with victory this evening.
Let's take a look at the two teams for tonight, starting with the hosts.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Daniel Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Sergio Reguilon; Luka Modric, Marcos Llorente, Dani Ceballos; Lucas Vazquez, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale.
VALENCIA (4-4-2): Neto; Daniel Wass, Ezequiel Garay, Gabriel, Jose Gaya; Carlos Soler, Daniel Parejo, Francis Coquelin, Goncalo Guedes; Santi Mina, Kevin Gameiro.
Real Madrid lead 1-0 after Wass’ early own goal. The hosts are unrecognisable from the side that lost to Eibar last weekend and have completely controlled the match. Valencia have struggled to win the ball and have been dominated in midfield.
Solari will be pleased with what he has seen so far, though the hosts will be disappointed they have not taken advantage of their control of the game. Marcelino can take positives from his side's defensive display, but the chaos at the back that led to the goal will be a concern. Kondogbia is an option off the bench for the visitors as they try and win some more possession. Asensio could replace Vazquez for Real Madrid, who has been very quiet in the first half.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Real Madrid rode their luck in the second half, but Solari will be delighted that his side picked up all three points after the shock defeat to Eibar last weekend. Marcelino will be happy with what he saw from his team in the second half, though Valencia will be frustrated that their struggles in front of goal continued. Both teams will rest plenty of players in the Copa del Rey in midweek before returning to league action next weekend.
