The match is underway!
Hello and welcome to tonight's live coverage of Borussia Dortmund vs Red Bull Salzburg from the Europa League. The first leg of this last-16 tie will be played at the iconic Signal-Iduna Park before Red Bull Salzburg then host the return leg next week.
Dortmund boss Peter Stoger has been delighted with his team's recent form as they are now unbeaten in 12 matches in all competitions. That form has pushed them up the Bundesliga table, but Bayern Munich are still too far ahead.
Dortmund reached this round after overcoming Atalanta thanks to a win on home soil before a draw in Italy in the second leg. Red Bull Salzburg proved too much for Spanish outfit Real Sociedad but tonight's encounter promises to be much tougher.
STAT - These two have never met in a European competition before so history will be made at 6pm. Dortmund's form against Austrian teams is strong with four wins from as many matches in recent years. Despite winning four of their last five away games in Europe, Red Bull Salzburg have never beaten a team in Germany.
Tonight's TEAM NEWS coming up...
Borussia Dortmund Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Roman Burki, Gonzalo Castro, Sokratis, Omer Toprak, Marcel Schmelzer, Mahmoud Dahoud, Julian Weigl, Marco Reus, Mario Gotze, Andre Schurrle, Michy Batshuayi.
Dortmund SUBS: Raphael Guerreiro, Christian Pulisic, Maximilian Philipp, Roman Weidenfeller, Alexander Isak, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Nuri Sahin.
Red Bull Salzburg Starting XI (4-4-2): Alexander Walke, Stefan Lainer, Andre Ramalho, Duje Caleta-Car, Andreas Ulmer, Amadou Haidara, Diadie Samassekou, Xaver Schlager, Valon Berisha, Hwang Hee-Chan, Munas Dabbur.
Salzburg SUBS: Jerome Onguene, Christoph Leitgeb, Hannes Wolf, Frederik Gulbrandsen, Reinhold Yabo, Takumi Minamino, Cican Stankovic.
Stoger makes two changes from the side that drew 1-1 with RB Leipzig last weekend. Piszczek and Akanji drop out for Castro and Sokratis, while Rose makes three alterations. Onguene, Yabo and Minamino all drop to the bench and are replaced by Caleta-Car, Haidara and Samassekou.
Kick-off fast approaching as both teams make their way onto the pitch.
HALF-TIME - Dortmund 0-0 Salzburg.
The first half finally burst into life in the last 10 minutes and Dortmund were lucky to go into the tunnel without conceding. Both teams have been guilty of slowing the play down but it could be a sign of nerves at this stage of the competition.
Schurrle had Dortmund's best effort with a powerful volley but Stoger's men looked a little flat and will be expected to respond in the next 45 minutes. Second-half action coming up shortly...
FULL-TIME Dortmund 1-2 Salzburg.
What a night for Salzburg as they hang on to claim the victory in this Europa League clash. Dortmund were the favourites ahead of KO but the Austrian outfit proved they mean business in the competition. Two fine goals from Berisha have put them in control ahead of next week's second leg.
Dortmund do have a fighting chance after scoring a goal but they will be under immense pressure as they try to get a result next week. They are considered one of the favourites to win the competition but Stoger's troops are nearly on their way out.
That is all for tonight ladies and gentleman. Thanks for joining us, goodbye!
Coach Marco Rose has also got his team firing at the moment and they are unbeaten in their last eight competitive games. They have scored 18 in five matches so that bodes well for tonight's viewing.
