There we go - the referee blows the final whistle!
90' +2
J. Correa enters the game and replaces Á. Di María.
Argentina make one last change with Angel Correa replacing Di Maria.
89'
Sampaoli can only look on as two more points appear to be sliding away in his country's quest for FIFA World Cup qualification.
86'
Time ticking down in Montevideo! Argentina are trying to make things happen, but struggling to find a way through the stubborn Uruguayan defence.
83'
C. Stuani enters the game and replaces L. Suárez.
Suarez takes a knock and Tabarez decides that 83 minutes in enough for his returning star striker. Cristhian Stuani comes on in his place.
80'
Ten minutes remaining, still 0-0 and it is looking all the more likely that the spoils will be shared here.
77'
C. Rodríguez gets yellow.
Rodriguez stops Messi in his tracks, albeit illegally, and is rightly booked by the referee.
75'
We are into the final quarter of an hour in Montevideo. Can either side find a winner or are we destined for a stalemate?
73'
Just seconds after coming on, Pastore has his name taken but can have few complaints. Cacares was threatening to break and launch a counter attack, had it not been for his intervention.
72'
J. Pastore gets yellow.
And his first action of the game is to receive a yellow card for bringing down Cacares.
Minute
Description
71'
J. Pastore enters the game and replaces P. Dybala.
Javier Pastore is thrown into the action by Sampaoli, who opts to give Dybala a breather.
68'
M. Corujo enters the game and replaces Á. González.
Uruguay make an alteration with Mathías Corujo replacing Gonzalez.
66'
Argentina have enjoyed the better of the recent head-to-head record between the nations - winning three of the last four - and collecting three points here would be hugely important, you feel.
63'
The visitors look to build the pressure around the Uruguay area and the ball comes out wide to Di Maria, whose cross is a disappointing one in all fairness and easily gathered by Muslera.
61'
Lautaro Acosta enters the game and replaces M. Acuña.
Argentina make the first change of the match with Acuña making way for Lautaro Acosta, who earns his first senior international cap.
59'
GOOD SAVE! Messi gets his delivery up and over the wall and it is heading for the top corner, but Muslera scrambles across well to push away to safety.
57'
Argentina have been awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area after Dybala is chopped down by Rodriguez. This is very much in Messi territory...
55'
Mercado needs to be careful as he rather foolishly squares up to Suarez following a tussle for the ball. Romero is quickly on the scene to push his teammate away from danger of picking up a second yellow card.
52'
Suarez is back in the thick of the action and beats the offside trap as he looks to race in behind the Argentina defence. Nevertheless, he loses his footing at the vital moment and the onrushing Romero is able to clear to safety.
50'
G. Mercado gets yellow.
Mercado is also shown a yellow card after catching Suarez with his arm following an aerial challenge between the pair.
48'
Nandez looks to get in behind and latch on Suarez's through ball. However, some very solid defending from Di Maria eventually draws a foul out of the former and Argentina can relax.
47'
Á. González gets yellow.
Gonzalez goes into the book after a very rash challenge on Messi.
46'
KICK-OFF! The referee blows his whistle and we're back underway in this second half.
45' +1
That is all for the first half!
43'
Today is a good opportunity for Icardi to make a statement to Sampaoli for more chances to shine at international level. Despite being Internazionale's talisman, this is only his second cap for Argentina, who have called him up ahead of Gonzalo Higuain for this match. He has struggled to make an impact so far, but there is time yet.
41'
J. Giménez gets yellow.
Gimenez has his name taken for a rash challenge on Icardi.
40'
All eyes may be on Neymar but Cavani has began the Ligue 1 season in equally impressive form for PSG. He has already found the net five times and his goals will be crucial in their bid to retain the domestic crown.
37'
WELL RECOVERED! Romero can only parry Rodriguez's effort into the path of Cavani, but makes amends just in time by getting a vital hand to the ball to deny the PSG striker.
35'
We are still awaiting the breakthrough going into the final 10 minutes of the first half. Argentina are arguably looking the more threatening of the two nations, but the game definitely needs a goal.
32'
GREAT EFFORT! Some sloppy play from Argentina is intercepted by Cavani and the ball runs kindly for Suarez, who tries his luck from 40 yards out with Romero off his line. And it was not too far away after just dropping the wrong side of the crossbar.
30'
ALMOST! Argentina are awarded a corner after some good work from Dybala sees his shot deflect behind. From the resulting set-piece, Otamendi is just inches away from connecting with Messi's dangerous ball to the far post. Uruguay can relax with a goal-kick.
27'
Suarez was apologetic for his challenge but it is fair to say that he was unlucky not to receive a yellow card for it. You have seen them given for a lot less than that.
25'
OUCH! Biglia stays down after a late challenge from Suarez, who just caught the top of his opponent's foot. It looked like a painful one but the central midfielder is soon back on his feet.
23'
Mercado tries his luck with an ambitious effort from distance. However, his attempt is never troubling Muslera as it goes high and wide of the target.
21'
Of course, conceding goals has been a surprising problem for Uruguay in recent times. In fact, La Celeste have let in 15 in their last five matches!
18'
Argentina are slowly starting to dominate in terms of possession. They are keeping the ball well inside the Uruguay half and just waiting for the opportunity to break down the hosts' stubborn defence.
15'
Godin is earning his 109th Uruguay cap today and edging closer to Maxi Pereira's record of 120 international appearances. As things stand, he could potentially break that record at the World Cup Finals next June.
13'
OFFSIDE - NO GOAL! Argentina deal with the initial delivery but an unmarked Godin is able to guide the ball home beyond Romero. However, the hosts are denied by the offside flag much to the relief of their opponents.
12'
Swansea have a free-kick in a dangerous area after Di Maria is penalised. It is around 30 yards from goal and out to the right. Godin has made the journey forward...
9'
ALMOST AN OWN-GOAL! Otamendi is close to turning the ball beyond his own goalkeeper, as he turns Suarez's cross narrowly wide of the post with a flat-footed Romero only able to watch and hope for the best.
7'
GOOD INTERVENTION! Cacares gets forward for Uruguay down the right flank and whips a dangerous ball into the box. However, Mercado is well-positioned to make a very important clearance with Suarez lurking.
5'
Argentina have made a bright start to the contest with Icardi just been beaten to the ball by Muslera in the opening minute, while they have continued to look creative going forward.
3'
It was in this stadium that the first-ever World Cup final was held between these two nations in 1930. Uruguay won 4-2 after recovering from 2-1 down with Hector Castro - a one-armed player - scoring the decisive fourth goal.
1'
KICK-OFF! Here we go! The referee blows his whistle and we're underway at Estadio Centenario.
Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE text coverage of what is set to be a crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier, as Uruguay and Argentina lock horns at Estadio Centenario!
Just a point separates the two nations with four games remaining in the Central American section. Uruguay are currently find themselves in third place - two above Argentina, who are currently in danger of being forced to go through a Play-Off in order to reach the Finals.
Having initially been ruled out of the squad, Luis Suarez has returned to start for La Celeste, who are aiming to end a run of four straight defeats. The Barcelona forward is partnered by Edinson Cavani up front, while Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez provide the stubborn heart of the defence.
There is also plenty of attacking threat in the starting 11 named by Jorge Sampaoli in his first competitive match in charge of Argentina. Lionel Messi captains his country once again and receives support from Paulo Dybala, Angel Di Maria and Mauro Icardi, who earns just his second international cap. Meanwhile, Federico Fazio earns his first cap in three years at centre-half but the most surprising news is that there is no starting place for Sergio Aguero, who is forced to settle for a place on the bench.
The teams are out, the national anthems have been observed and kick-off is just moments away...
HALF-TIME: URUGUAY 0-0 ARGENTINA
Both countries have had moments in the first half, but is fair to say that this match really is crying out for a goal after the restart.
The teams are back out and the second half is upon us!
FULL-TIME: URUGUAY 0-0 ARGENTINA
A goalless draw is not the result that either side were looking for in Montevideo, where both dropped two points in their quest for qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Finals. That's all for today, thank you for following our LIVE text coverage - hope you've enjoyed it. Until next time, see you soon!
