And it's a poor effort, going right to McCarthy, and it turns out to be the last meaningful action of the game! QPR have come from behind, despite already being relegated, to defeat Newcastle 2-1 at home!
90' +2
Barton takes down Jonas just outside the box and this is surely a golden opportunity to equalize! Cisse stands over the ball, ready to direct his effort on goal.
90'
Three minutes of injury time have just been announced by the fourth official, with QPR swarming the visitors with every touch of the ball.
88'
Newcastle take yet another corner - their 11th of the match - but it's poor, right into the arms of McCarthy. They're minutes away from staring down the barrel of defeat, knowing this leaves them in a reckless position for relegation!
86'
Newcastle look well and truly sucker punched ever since that second goal - they haven't offered much, though Perez does well to keep the ball in the box but Cisse can't poke it into the net when McCarthy spills it!
84'
Yun Suk-Young gets yellow.
It's a caution for Yoon after a poor challenge down his own flank and Newcastle take the ensuing free kick into the box, but it's cleared and QPR are countering, winning a corner in the process.
82'
SISSOKO JUST WIDE! Off a mistake at the back that sees the ball hit two players and fall kindly for the midfielder, he takes a shot from inside the box towards the far post that goes millimetres wide!
81'
Newcastle are really just hanging on now, with Sissoko conceding a free-kick that the home side play short before sending an overhit cross into the box.
79'
Barton takes a wild shot from outside of the box that was going well wide but takes a fortunate deflection off the QPR defence and begets a corner!
77'
It's still been all QPR since that second goal of theirs, with them entrenched deeply down the left Newcastle flank, winning a series of throw-ins that ensures they stay near the box.
Minute
Description
75'
Perez concedes a free-kick after stepping late on Barton's foot with the midfielder down, just outside of the QPR box. The Rangers aren't really in a hurry to take this here, and hoof it up to their frontline.
73'
S. Ameobi enters the game and replaces R. Cabella.
Cabella, who's had a bit of a quiet and frustrating day, comes off for Ameobi as Newcastle make one last roll of the dice with the end of the 90 minutes rapidly approaching for the visitors.
71'
Colback does very well to shepard the ball out of his box under immense pressure from the home side, who continue to try and build on their lead as they seek a third.
69'
Both sides miss chances in quick succession, with Gutierrez firing right at the keeper following a solid run in the midfield, and Fer firing over from a smart cutback under pressure from a tackle from Gutierrez.
68'
Sissoko plays the ball up to Aarons but the QPR defence clears it well. The visitors do not look like they have much of a strategy to score their second at the moment, with the plan looking just like crosses from either wing.
66'
Newcastle now are in serious trouble and need to do everything they can to score again. With Hull currently losing to Tottenham, this is the chance they can take advantage of to ensure safety - but a loss for them too means that it can go down to the final day!
64'
R. Aarons enters the game and replaces R. Taylor.
Taylor comes off for Aarons, as perhaps a precaution given the midfielder's history of knee trouble and the hit he took just a few short minutes ago, and Riviere makes his exit for CIsse.
63'
P. Cissé enters the game and replaces E. Rivière.
Dummett skies his shot from the corner after finding the ball fortunately bouncing right in front of him, from nealry point blank range! What a chance that was!
62'
Taylor tries to emulate Fer on the other end of the pitch but his shot takes a touch off the keeper and he wins his side a corner.
61'
L. Fer has scored a goal for Queens Park Rangers! Assist by M. Phillips.
AN UNREAL GOAL FROM FER! WHAT A SENSATIONAL STRIKE! AND QPR ARE IN THE LEAD! Just like that, Newcastle are trailing! Fer collected the ball from ten yards outside the box and curled a fantastic effort into the top corner that left Krul no chance to save!
60'
Newcastle's seventh corner of the day is headed out of the box but kept alive by Janmaat, before Cabella crossed it back into the box. QPR counter and Austin goes for it from just inside the area that Krul saves easily.
58'
The game is even here, with Taylor standing over a free-kick in the heart of the pitch, played up to Sissoko and forced out for a corner by Yoon.
56'
Guiterrez just brushes aside Barton on the wing to get to the box and deliver a cross, and though it initially comes to nothing, the pullback allows Janmaat to shoot on target after the advantage is played when Taylor is fouled from behind.
54'
M. Phillips has scored a goal for Queens Park Rangers! Assist by C. Austin.
PHILLIPS EQUALIZES! WHAT A DAGGER TO NEWCASTLE! Again it's a simple finish from a simple play: a nice cross whipped in from the wing from Austin that hangs perfectly in the air for the number 7 to head into the net! GAME ON!
52'
AUSTIN JUST WIDE! Newcastle's defending was nowhere to be seen as a high ball over the top fooled Coloccini and Dummett, with the striker taking the ball down, hoodwinking both of them, and firing just wide of the far post!
51'
Both goalkeepers have been busy collecting stray balls in their boxes but neither sides' offense are really generating chances in the area, to the relief of both defences.
50'
J. Barton gets yellow.
49'
During the half time interval, Henry and Caulker came off for Cox and Yoon as the home side look to get back into this one now. Newcastle take a free-kick short that Cabella whips into the box, just over the head of Dummett!
47'
QPR NEARLY EQUALIZE! A fantastic ball played into the box finds Fer unmarked, who's making a run towards the far post, and he sticks his boot out to volley it into the net. Coloccini slides in to make a tackle that diverts the ball out for a corner!
46'
R. Grego-Cox enters the game and replaces J. Hoilett.
Yun Suk-Young enters the game and replaces S. Caulker.
The second half is now underway! It begins the way the first ended, with a good run into the box from Perez that McCarthy scoops up.
45' +4
And that's the half! It's ends 1-0 to Newcastle after the first 45 minutes thanks to a classy finish from Riviere.
45' +2
Hill passes the ball back from his keeper under heavy pressure from the Newcastle's frontline, who are incessantly pressing at every opportunity.
45'
Into the first of four minutes of injury time and Sissoko has a shot blocked in the box that goes out for a corner, which Coloccini nearly diverts into the net on a flying diving header!
43'
With the half drawing to a close here, QPR are playing a dangerous game and just trying to hold on until the whistle. There's been immense pressure from Newcastle ever since the goal and in some ways the home side are fortunate to only be down by one.
41'
Close again from Newcastle! They're cutting in from the left dangerously and whipping crosses in time and time again that are just nearly missing the men making runs into the box.
39'
QPR are looking to copy the strategy that Newcastle used so effectively to score, sending high balls to Austin from the defence, but they're not troubling Krul so far.
37'
Barton is still pushing his side forward, and he goes down in the middle of the pitch but is soon on his feet again. The match is quite scrappy right now, with neither side being able to hang onto the ball.
35'
Green does indeed come off as McCarthy comes on the pitch to replace his keeper. His first involvement is a goal-kick, and soon the match is back underway.
34'
A. McCarthy enters the game and replaces R. Green.
33'
Green is still being evaluated on the pitch. He's on his feet, talking to the physios and the referee as they try to stem the bleeding. It remains to be seen if he's coming off.
31'
Green rushes out to grab a dangerous ball that Sissoko ushered into the area but collided his head with Barton's knee in the process. He's got a cut above his eye and he's bleeding - he's being evaluated now and this might raise some questions about the Premier League's concussion protocol if he doesn't come off.
29'
Somewhat predictably that goal has really bolstered Newcastle's confidence and they're swarming the area outside of QPR's box at will, looking to break down the resistance.
27'
QPR have to be careful not to let their heads get away from them now - Austin commits a foul high in the midfield to concede a free-kick to the visitors.
26'
Newcastle nearly double their lead off a whirling Taylor free-kick from just outside the area that bends just a little too far past the far post!
24'
E. Rivière has scored a goal for Newcastle United! Assist by T. Krul.
GOOOOOAAALLLL NEWCASTLE! COULD THIS BE THE GOAL THAT KEEPS THEM UP?! It's simple route one football: a high ball over the top that Riviere beat the offside trap to take down and slot in past Green! 1-0 to the Magpies!
22'
Barton is doing all he can to urge his teammates forward here. He's been all over the midfield, plugging in where needed to shield the defence.
21'
A fantastic team move from Newcastle works the ball well inside of the box but Onuoha slides in to concede the corner before Riviere can pull the trigger!
19'
Onuoha works a cross into the area after Newcastle fail to truly clear the ball but it's Krul who comes to the rescue and plucks it out of the air.
17'
It's a physical battle out there with quite a high number of throw-ins resulting from tackles in the midfield. Barton plays a quick free-kick up towards Austin that forces the Newcastle defence to concede a throw-in deep in their own half.
15'
Slowly but surely, Newcastle are working the ball forward, but the progression is halted when Onuoha is knocked over by Riviere and a foul is blown just outside of the box for QPR.
13'
Janmaat again intercepts the ball excellently down his flank but his forwards aren't on the same page and lose the ball just as quickly as he won it. Newcastle are struggling to keep the ball, instead forcing QPR into several throw-ins.
12'
A corner for the home side nearly results in a chance, but Krul collects the ball just over the head of Henry.
10'
It's been all QPR up to now, switching from one flank to another as they look to use their width, but Janmaat wins possession and forces a corner.
8'
Hill is trying to pump a steady stream of crosses into the box but Newcastle's defence is dealing with them quite easily. QPR are working it carefully down the left, trying to carve an opening.
6'
A half chance for the visitors! Riviere races into the box to get on the end of a long cross to try and poke it into the net, but Green shields it carefully over the line.
5'
Hoilett goes on a mazy run through the middle of the pitch, bypassing several players, but he takes on one man too many and loses it, with his teammates angry that he didn't send it wide.
3'
A good cross is drilled into the near post by Phillips but Krul is off his line to collect it. It's been a fairly open match so far, with both sides bypassing the midfield easily.
1'
And we have kick-off! QPR quickly take possession and hoof it up but Coloccini heads it clear. The home side keep the ball near the box for a good spell but the visitors keep it outside of the area.
Hello all and welcome to our live match coverage of QPR vs Newcastle! This is a match that has much on the line: with just two games to go, Newcastle are only two points above the drop. Even with QPR relegated, the result today could decide if John Carver's team joins them!
Recent history between these two sides favours the visitors but only slightly. Newcastle have won all of their last four games against QPR but only by a single goal each, and haven't been defeated in nine meetings.
And with QPR effectively relegated, the visitors today will be hoping that they can get the points they need. The Rangers are the only Premier League team not to win at home yet this calendar year but only Newcastle have collected fewer points in 2015.
There are a huge rash of absences for both sides today. The home side will miss Zarate, Isla, Faurlin and Vargas while the visitors will have to do without de Jong, Tiote, Williamson and Taylor.
We're just minutes away from kickoff now! The teams are walking onto the pitch, Newcastle in their black and white stripes and QPR in white and blue.
It was an open, engaging and rather even affair until Krul's assist to open the goal that gave all the momentum to Newcastle. For the visitors, this is exactly what they need in terms of points and performance and they'll want to keep it up in the second half.
QPR meanwhile were largely dull and devoid of ideas, with a single shot attempted in the first 45 minutes and offering no real threat besides a few crosses in from Hill that Krul collected easily.
For Newcastle, it was a great first half performance but a very poor second half, with no answer after Fer scored his wondergoal. They are in serious danger of relegation now, needing a win against West Ham next week at home to ensure they stay up!
QPR fans meanwhile have rushed the pitch, celebrating the victory with the players. They might be in the Championship next year but a good run of form at the end of the season can send them down with the belief that they can come right back up. Thank you for joining us here today!
