That was a nice touch by Silva to tee up Aguero, but that all came from a mistake by Stephens. The midfielder fell asleep momentarily and didn't see that De Bruyne was lurking just behind him.
GOAL! City have finally taken the lead! Stephens clumsily loses the ball out wide and gifts the ball to De Bruyne, who then bursts forward. The Belgian heads towards the penalty area and finds Silva, who then sets up Aguero, and the Argentine does really well to beat Ryan with a well-hit strike.

City have the ball in the back of the net, but once again it's ruled out! Silva darts into the penalty area on what looks like a great run before squaring a deft pass to Jesus to knock the ball into the net from close range, but as soon as he does so the linesman's flag is rightly raised.

More patient play by City sets up Danilo to send in a cross from the left wing. It's cleared by Propper but only as far as Fernandinho, who then unleashes a low shot that's easily stopped by Ryan.
49'
Aguero and Jesus almost link up with a really nice one-two on the edge of the Brighton box, but Dunk is there to smash the ball away at the vital moment to stop the Brazilian from getting a shot away.
48'
Space opens up for Hemed and allows the Israel international to break down the left flank, but he doesn't have the pace required to beat Walker and is easily knocked off the ball by the City wing-back.

35'
After a lengthy period on the back foot, Brighton are finally able to push forward on an attack of their own. It fails to result in anything, however, as City have plenty of bodies in the middle of the pitch to deal with the danger.

Gabriel Jesus gets yellow.
Jesus eventually gets back to his feet and is shown a yellow card for handling the ball. He didn't seem to know much about it, so it seems to be a slightly harsh decision.

19'

13'
A chipped pass into the box is met by Duffy, who then nods the ball behind for a corner despite not being under any pressure. The set-piece is curled in by David Silva and finds Fernandinho, who rises high but can't test Ryan with his headed effort.
11'
City are comfortably dominating possession, as expected, but, so far, Brighton have done relatively well to contain them. Their flat back four has remained pretty solid, despite some good play by the likes of Jesus and De Bruyne in and around the box.

We're off! City get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Premier League game between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City at the Amex Stadium.
20 years after almost going extinct, Brighton have made it to the top tier of English football for the first time in their history. An excellent final season in the Championship saw them finish as runners-up to book their place in the Premier League, and, whilst they couldn’t have been handed a tougher tie to start with, today is all about the fans celebrating the club’s wonderful success.
It could prove to be a tough first season for Brighton, but Chris Hughton has been adamant over the summer that his side are capable of holding their own against the big boys. Twice in one week they’ve broken their club transfer record - first to sign Davy Propper from PSV and then Club Brugge’s Jose Izquierdo - and the Dutchman is set to start this afternoon.
As far as summer spending goes, nobody matches the might of City. Last season’s third-place finishers have splashed the cash in extravagant fashion to bring in the likes of Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva, and the first three are set to start their first competitive games here today. With the Premier League title firmly on his mind, Pep Guardiola will be desperate to start the season with a comprehensive victory against the division’s newest arrival.
City lost against their local rivals during the International Champions Cup, but, bar that, it was a positive summer for them. West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid were all comfortably beaten by the Sky Blues, who will be heading off to Spain for a training camp and one final friendly test against Girona next week.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Manchester City substitutes: Bravo, Mangala, Foden, Toure, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Sane.
Manchester City XI (3-5-2): Ederson; Stones, Kompany, Otamendi; Walker, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, David Silva, Danilo; Gabriel Jesus, Aguero.
Chris Hughton has decided to field a mixture of experienced heads and new faces in his Brighton side, and there are plenty of exciting new acquisitions for the home fans to keep an eye on. Midfielder Davy Propper has been thrown straight into the starting line-up, whilst Mathew Ryan, Markus Suttner, Pascal Gross and Izzy Brown are all set to feature as well.
As for City, Pep Guardiola has decided to start a few new signings of his own. Ederson, Kyle Walker and Danilo will feature right from the beginning, whilst Bernardo Silva could come off the substitutes’ bench if needed later on.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY
So far, so good for Brighton, who have defended brilliantly to keep City at bay. The visitors have absolutely dominated possession but are struggling to find a way through the home side's determined back line. Jesus managed to get the ball in the back of the net but it was rightly disallowed, and since then the Seagulls have grown increasingly confident all over the pitch.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY
Brighton did really well to keep City at bay for 70 minutes, but, in the end, Pep Guardiola's side had slightly too much firepower in their ranks for the home side and eventually managed to find a way through. Once Aguero had found the back of the net, it never looked as if his side were going to leave with less than three points, and that proved to be the case.
