But the biggest news coming from the team selection is of course the inclusion of Neymar in the Barcelona side, despite heavy speculation that the Brazilian is on the verge of being pried away by PSG. Barcelona have kept their stance that they do not wish to sell, but the reported record offer of over 200 million from the French outfit may be enough to lure him to Paris.
This match marks the start of the pre-season for both sides. Juventus have not been in action since the Champions League final on June 3, while Barcelona’s last match saw them lift the Copa del Rey title on May 27.
The belated start to pre-season provides little reason for concern as these two clubs adopt a quality over quantity approach testing themselves against some of Europe’s best. Juventus follow this up with games against PSG, Roma and Tottenham, while Barcelona will face Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Pre-season it may be, but this is also an opportunity for Barcelona to exact a bit of revenge on Juventus after being dumped out of last season’s Champions League in the quarter-final at the hands of the Italian champions, 3-0 on aggregate.
